In Our Backyard is an exhibition that will feature fine art photography by Zenobia Southcombe, of Dwindle River Studio in Palmerston, North Otago. It has a focus on wildlife that can be found in the region, ranging from tiny moths to the iconic hoiho/yellow-eyed penguin. The artworks also explore different ways of making a photograph, including the historical process of cyanotype printing using the sun to expose images.
Zenobia writes “I work mainly in photography, but I also love painting and drawing. I feel a deep connection to te taiao, our natural world, so you'll see images full of emotion - whether that be the rugged Otago coast, the friendly local pÄ«wakawaka, or the little moths in my garden.
Each work is an invitation to look at the world through a lens of wonder and curiosity; to see the beauty of our everyday lives and the precious world in which we are living.”
The exhibition of 50 artworks, including three new works, will have a public opening at the South Canterbury Museum on Thursday 23 April at 6:30pm and will run until mid-July.
