Biographical Notes

Richard CONNOR was a son of John and Mary CONNOR. His brothers Ernest and John also served in WWI.

After being balloted, Ernest enlisted from Korere, Nelson, and was assigned to the 22nd Reinforcements, C Company. A Medical Board held on 19 December 1916 found that Ernest was not fit for service due to a pre-existing leg injury. As a result he was medically discharged before embarking overseas. The Board had been presented a report which recorded:

"Patient was run over by a cart about 7 years ago. Wheel passing over lower limb just aboive the knee. 2 years ago a small lump was noticed in popliteal space. Leg used to feel stiff. Lump gradually enlarged. Has been much more painful this last week or two since patient has been on route marches.

There isa evidently a rupture of the muscle and the sheath, will probably need stitching."
