Biographical Notes

Clarence Walter Parker was born (as Walter Clarence Parker) on 19 February 1897 at Sockburn, Christchurch, the son of Walter Stewart and Ellen (née Whithair) Parker. In 1904 he started at Waihaorunga School. Clarence was a wool sorter, residing at home, when he enlisted and named his mother as next-of-kin – Mrs Ellen Parker, Waimairi Road, Upper Riccarton, Christchurch. Private C. W. Parker embarked at Wellington with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion of the 15th Reinforcements on 26 July 1916. 17814 Lance-Corporal Clarence W. Parker returned home by a Draft (Nos. 147 or 148 or 149) which was to arrive in New Zealand in March 1918.

He married Ivy Gertrude Ferguson in 1922; they divorced in 1923. Clarence Walter Parker died on 27 April 1941 at New Plymouth, aged 44, and was buried at Te Henui Cemetery, New Plymouth. .
