Biographical Notes
John Liston was born on 16 January 1884 at Timaru, the eldest son of Thomas and Bridget (née O’Connell) Liston, and was baptised Rroman Catholic at Temuka on 24 January. Probably he spent time at Opihi School with his siblings. He was farming on his own account at Pleasant Point when he enlisted on 21 May 1917 at Timaru. John Joseph Liston died on 14 December 1978 and was buried at Timaru with his sister Annie. His brother James served in World War One.
