Biographical Notes

Andrew Thomas Anderson was born on 19 July 1891 at Seadown, the son of Francis Anderson, from Australia, and his French-born wife, Melina Ida Ellery Agnes Forence née Hunt. He was educated at Seadown School. His father died in 1915 at Seadown. Enlisting as Andrew Anderson, he was a labourer at Seadown and named his mother as next-of-kin.

His name appeared in Casualty List No. 642 – a very long one published on 9 August 1917. He had been wounded in action on the Western Front. A. Anderson, 38326, was one of 1128 soldiers ho returned to New Zealand aboard the “Maunganui”, leaving on 17 May 1919 and arriving at Wellington on 24 June 1919.
