Biographical Notes

Harold Henry Ansley was born on 17 October 1886 at Kensington, Timaru, the son of Thomas and Phoebe (née Ward) Ansley. His parents married in England and, with four children, came to New Zealand, where five more were born, Harold being the youngest. Harold was educated at Timaru South School. Mrs Ansley died in 1897.

Private Harold Henry Ansley, of Waimate, returned to New Zealand per the “Mokoia”, arriving on 15 July 1918. Harold had married Louisa Sutton on 9 March 1918 at St Stephen’s, Walthamstow, England. Harold and Louisa are buried at Timaru. His brother, Percy Charles Ansell, who served with the Royal Army Service Corps, was killed in action in 1917.
