Biographical Notes

Cecil Alfred John Mason was born on 9 February 1898 at Mataura, the younger son of Augustus and Emily (née Smith) Mason. He was educated at Tuturau School. Private Mason embarked with the 42nd Reinforcements on 1 August 1918. Cecil married Ethel May Phillips in 1924. He died on 17 September 1975 at Timaru and was buried with Ethel in the Waimate Lawn Cemetery (ashes?). His brother Harry also served in World War I.
