Biographical Notes
Norman Trane Walker was born on 2 September 1895 at Timaru, the second son of Frederick and Agnes (née Reilly) Walker. He was educated at Waimataitai School, Timaru. Norman was a hairdresser, residing at home, when he enlisted in 1917, and was already serving with the 2nd South Canterbury Regiment. He was initially rejected for the Military Forces on account of varicocele.
Norman married Charlotte Jane Wheeler in 1919 at St Mary’s, Timaru. He died on 14 June 1968, aged 72 years, and was buried at Timaru Cemetery. His brother, Leonard Arthur Walker, also enlisted for war service.
