Biographical Notes

Roy Gipson Millen was born on 19 March 1890 at Feilding, the eldest son of John Gipson Brown and Elizabeth Evangeline (née Mexted) Millen. Roy was educated at Colyton, Manchester Street Feilding, Ashurst and Awahou South schools. By 1914 Roy was a bank clerk stationed in Timaru. He was among the recruits passed by the medical men in Timaru in mid July 1915. His mother died only two weeks before he left for the Front.

Roy married Elizabeth Mary Macdonald Henderson in 1934. At the beginning of 1962, in retirement, Roy and Elizabeth went on a trip overseas, intending to be away for about a year and making their base in London. Sadly Roy died on 9 April 1962 in London [verified by probate record]. Elizabeth stayed on for some time before returning to New Zealand.
