Biographical Notes

Reginald Waterland Mander was born on 23 November 1889 in the Bay of Islands, the second son of John and Annie Jeffery (née Shaw) Mander. He was educated at Fairlie, Andersons Bay (Dunedin) and Motueka schools. It was while the family was residing at Fairlie that John Mander, an accountant, died – 26 October 1894 - and was buried in the Fairlie Cemetery. Mrs John Mander provided private lodgings at Fairlie in 1897.

Reginald was a law clerk in Auckland when he was called up in 1917. On 2 February 1921 he married Frances Brandon. Reginald and Frances divorced in 1940. He died on 25 April 1947, aged 57 years, and was buried in Purewa Cemetery, Auckland. Both his older brother, Guy Jeffery Mander, and his younger brother, Lionel John Mander, served in World War I. Guy, Lionel and Reginald were nephews of Frederick Shaw who served in World War I.
