Biographical Notes

William Francis Hogan, born on 30 December 1887 at Waimate, was the second son and the third of the fourteen children born to Martin and Mary (née Cleaves) Hogan. He married Ellen Booker on 7 January 1909 at Timaru. Their first-born died in infancy; three more daughters were born in 1911, 1914 and 1916. William was a labourer living in Christchurch when he enlisted and named his wife as next-of-kin.

William Francis Hogan died on 4 June 1966 in Auckland, aged 78 years, and was buried in Glenfield Cemetery, Auckland. Four brothers of William Francis Hogan saw service overseas in World War I - Henry Joseph, Michael, Martin Joseph and John Joseph.
