Biographical Notes

Thomas Forrest, born on 10 May 1895 at Glasgow, Scotland, was the son of James and Agnes (née Gibb) Forrest. Thomas, his brother John and sisters Elizabeth and Margaret came to Timaru South School from Addington School late in 1906. Thomas left at the age of 16 to join the Timaru Post. T. Forrest, 34597, returned to New Zealand per the “Arawa” (Draft No. 244), reaching Lyttelton about 12 May 1919. Thomas married Ethel Irene Jackson at St Mary’s Timaru in 1920. Ethel was interred in Timaru Cemetery while Thomas was cremated at Salisbury Park Crematorium.
