Biographical Notes
John Henry Missen was born on 18 July 1897 at Timaru, the son of John Henry (Jack) and Amy Keedwell (née Cobden) Missen. He served in “Dunsterforce”, an Allied military force which carried out special operations in the Southern Caucasus and Northern Iran during the First World War. [Cenotaph Databse]. John Henry Missen died on 9 October 1974, aged 77 years, and was buried at Hamilton Park Cemetery, Hamilton. He also enlisted for World War II. His older brother, Bateman Thomas Missen, also put his age up to serve with the Australian Forces, and a younger brother, David Curry Missen, put his age up to serve with the New Zealand Forces. David Curry Missen, an uncle of Bateman, John and David, was killed in action in 1917 at Messines.
