Biographical Notes
Frederick Alexander Lukey, born on 4 May 1878 at Timaru and baptised on 15 May 1881 at St Mary’s Anglican Church, Timaru, was the second son of Jabez and Mary (née Lloyd) Lukey. He was educated at Waimataitai and Timaru Main schools, transferring to Christchurch Normal School in 1888. He enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force at Liverpool, New South Wales, on 17 May 1915, aged 37 years. A veterinary surgeon and single, he named his father as next-of-kin – Jabez LUKEY, G.P.O. Melbourne. Frederick married Annie Mclean Macdonald in 1915 in New South Wales, between enlistment and embarkation. A retired veterinary surgeon, he died on 18 July 1951 at Leichardt, New South Wales, aged 73. He was buried at Woronora Memorial Park, Sutherland, New South Wales. His brother, Edgar Jabez Lukey also served with the Australian Forces in World War I.
