Biographical Notes

Henry Wellington Dugdell Curry was born on 2 January 1888 at Timaru, the oldest son of Robert Wellington and Mary Jane (Minnie, née Dugdell). The family moved from New Zealand to New South Wales in about 1890. He was 28 years 9 months old when he enlisted on 25 September 1916 with the Australian Imperial Force. An engine cleaner and single, he nominated his mother as next-of-kin - Mary Jane Curry, 57 Cleaveland Street, Redfern, New South Wales. Henry died on 25 June 1958 at Hurstville, Sydney, aged 70 years, and was buried at Woronora Memorial Park, Sutherland, NSW. A plaque on the Floral Court AIF Panel remembers “Our Dear Brother”. His brother, Austen Harold Gordon Curry, born at Hastings, New Zealand, also served with the Australian Forces in World War I.
