William Robert Anderson, known as Bill, was the oldest son of Robert August and Alice Edith (Edith, née Box) Anderson. He was educated at Pleasant Point School, he had some weeks off in 1898 for illness. He married Ellen MacKay Sutherland in 1912. Bill and Ellen had three children born before he enlisted – William Robert in 1913, Garfield Sutherland in 1915 and Jessie Noeleen in 1916. His brothers Henry Leslie Anderson and Ernest Edward Anderson both served in World War I, and his oldest brother William Robert Anderson enlisted.
