Biographical Notes
Herbert Gordon Ferrier was the youngest son of William, the noted Timaru photographer, and Eva Beatrice (née Cunninghame) Ferrier. He was educated at Timaru Main School. Herbert enlisted in August 1918 at Timaru, before he had reached the age of twenty, and was passed ‘fit A’ by the Medical Board. He served only in New Zealand. He married Grace Maud Harris in 1923. The Methodist Church of Timaru placed a handsome window in the Bank Street Church as a memorial for the war victims of the congregations. Apart from the names of the fallen appearing on the window, the names of all who served were inscribed in a book which was to be preserved in the Church. Included in the names were those of Herbert Gordon Ferrier, John Low Ferrier and William Hedley Ferrier.
