Biographical Notes

Henry Davidson was the sixth and youngest son of David and Ann (Annie, née Dorward) Davidson, from Forfarshire, Scotland. In 1901 Henry was at home at Kirkden, Forfarshire, with his parents and siblings (six boys and two girls). Mr and Mrs Davidson, with the four youngest children (Arthur, Mark, Henry and Georgina), came to New Zealand by the "Awarua" in 1914. Late in 1917 Henry was selected by lot from the First Division and called up. He married Daisy Hall on 31 December 1924 at Timaru's Chalmers Church. Two of his brothers - Arthur and Mark - were killed in action in France, Arthur in 1916 and Mark in 1918. Two others - Fred and Charles - were drawn in a ballot and enlisted.
