Biographical Notes
Charles Davidson was the second son of David and Ann (Annie, née Dorward) Davidson, from Forfarshire, Scotland. In 1891 and 1901 Charles was at home at Kirkden, Forfarshire, with his parents and siblings (six boys and two girls), in 1901 a sappers message boy. It appears that Charles came to New Zealand after his parents and younger siblings who arrived in 1914. He married Catherine Munro Healey on 15 September 1915 at Timaru's Chalmers Church. They had one child, Frank Charles born on 2 September 1916 at Timaru. Two of his brothers - Arthur and Mark - were killed in action in France, Arthur in 1916 and Mark in 1918. Two others - Fred and Henry - also enlisted.
