Alexander Duncan Bowman was the son of Alexander and Mary Ellen (née McCallum) Bowman. He was educated at Albury School. Late in 1917 he was selected by lot from the First Division and called up. Alex married Edna Gladys Niles in 1919. After Edna's death in 1953, he married Flora.
