Michael Burke was the son of Michael and Mary (née Calihan/Callaghan) Burke. Michael was educated at Milford School. On 25 June 1917, he and his brother Joseph left with men from the South Canterbury military district for camp. Michael Burke is buried in a family plt in the Temuka Cemetery.
