Biographical Notes
William Albert Shirley was the older son of Arthur and Bridget Ann (née Jones) Shirley. W. A. Shirley embarked from Liverpool on 16 November 1917 by the “Ruahine” and arrived back in New Zealand on 6 January 1918. He married Norah May Harris in 1926. His brother Arthur also served in World War I, and their sister married Richard Sullivan who was also to serve in World War I.
