Biographical Notes

James Jefcoate Valentine was the second son of James (Jim) Archibald and Helen (née Jefcoate) Valentine. He was educated at Timaru South School where his father was a teacher (headmaster?), before going on to Timaru Boys High School. James was successful in the Junior Scholarship Examination. He married Mary Evelyn Duke on 29 November 1922 at Dunedin. His brother Archibald Graham Valentine also served in World War I.
