Biographical Notes
Sidney Bastings was the son of Frederick John bastings and his first wife Elizabeth née Campbell. Elizabeth died in 1909 at Invercargill. Sidney was educated at Invercargill South, Tokomairiro and Invercargill Middle schools. His father Frederick John Bastings, cordial manufacturer of Waimate, was drawn in the first military service ballot for No. 10 (South Canterbury) recruiting district in November 1916. Sidney married Nora Halcombe Manning in 1919.
