Biographical Notes

Thomas Benjamin McLay was the fourth son of John McLay and Ellen née Bray. He was educated at Waikouaiti School, leving at 14 years to go home to work. He married Helen Ida Grindell on 17 December 1903 at Geraldine. Thomas had already served in the South African War. Private T. B. McLay, Timaru, was one of the recruits for the Tenth Reinforcements who left South Canterbury in mid November 1915 for Trentham Camp.
