Biographical Notes

Donald Joseph Dunford was the fifh son of Alfred and Alice Amelia (née Harding) Dunford. Alfred had arrived with his family at Lyttleton in 1851 on the "Cressy". He was educated at Geraldine District High School before the family moved to Petone in 1905-06. His mother had died in 1905, nine months after the birth of her fourteenth child. His brother Alfred Dunford also served in World War I, as did two cousins - Charles Christopher Dunford and Edward Samuel Dunford.
