Biographical Notes

William Gilmore was the son of Thomas Robert and Jane (Jean, née Fagan) Gilmore. In 1901 William was at home with his parents and two brothers at Lear, Bailieboro, County Cavan. He had been in New Zealand one year and 21 days when he enlisted. He had served 12 years with the Dublin Police. William married Eleanor Florence McCamish on 19 December 1917 at Dromore Church, Dublin. He returned to Timaru per the Ionic in April 1919.
