Biographical Notes

William Joseph McCabe was the youngest son of Edward and Mary Ann (née Clancy) McCabe, who had cpme out from Ireland in 1874, their second child dying en route. Mrs Tee was his sister Sarah. J. W. A. McCabe embarked at Liverpool for the return to New Zealand per the “Tahiti”. draft no. 204, carrying 950 soldiers, reached Port Chalmers on 12 January 1919. Joseph married Gladys Ellen Batchelor in 1922. Their son was born at Waimate in 1928. William and Gladys divorced in 1932.
