Biographical Notes
Alphonsus Cecil Fahey was the third son of John David and Ellen (Eleanor, Nellie, née Cavanagh) Fahey. He left Timaru with the South Canterbury quota of the 16th Reinforcements on 3 May 1916. He did not embark, however until 31 December 1917. Perhaps he completed his studies. His brother, John Francis Fahey, died of influenza at sea en route to England on 5 September 1918. His father, who served in Timaru for twenty years as detective sergeant and as senior sergeant, died suddenly in October 1929 at Invercargill, having been transferred to there at the beginning of the year. He and Nellie are buried at Timaru.
