Biographical Notes
Leonard Walters, known as Len, was the third son of John Harris and Alice Ross (née Fergusson) Walters. His mother died at Orari eight days after the birth of her twelfth child. Len married Elizabeth Gregory in 1917 at Christchurch. His brother Clarence was killed in action in 1916 at the Somme. Three other brothers served in World War I - Herbert, Gordon and Sydney.
