Biographical Notes

James Kirkman was born on 9 July 1883 at Waimate, the son of Thomas and Mary Jane (née Derrick) Kirkman. His father died in1911, leaving a widow and a family of eleven. His mother married William Palmer in 1915. James got into some strife and used an alias - Jim Turner.
