Biographical Notes
Joseph Butters was the son of Joseph and Jessie (née Bisset) Butters. In 1919 at Chalmers Church, Timaru, he married Violet Louise Walton, the sister of Charles Walton who married joseph's sister in 1920.
Joseph enlisted with the Main Body at the outbreak of war, serving 4 years and 152 days abroad. He embarked for return to New Zealand aboard the SS Hororata on 1 January 1919, being discharged from service following his return to New Zealand in April 1919..
