Biographical Notes

Victor was a labourer from Waitohi Flat, South Canterbury. He was posted in the field to D company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd New Zealand Rifle Brigade on the Western Front, in February 1917. His rank was Rifleman. He was wounded in action on the 17th of June 1917, suffering from a gun shot wound to the back.

He was sent to a casualty clearing station but was back with his unit two months later. In September he was sent to hospital sick with appendecitis. This would put an end to his war time service and after the operation to remove his appendices at Walton and recovery at Hornchurch, he was sent home to New Zealand in April 1918.
