Biographical Notes
Thomas George was the son of John McVey and his wife Annie née Morrison. Thomas George McVey served as Harry McVey in World War, perhaps to mask the fact that he was underage, as his birthdate was also incorrect. he served again in Europe and Africa in World War Two when he died. Two brothers who served in World War One lost their lives - Daniel Morrison McVey in 1915 in Egypt and William Robert in 1917 in France; while his eldest brother John enlisted but did not goe overseas.all three brothers are remembered on their parents' headstone in the Timaru Cemetery. Another brother - Horatio Trafalgar Nelson McVey - also served in World War One.
