Biographical Notes
A descendant commented: "Albert Leonard Gordon (Bertie) Cole was born on the 11th November 1894 at Timaru, and died at the age of 82 years. He married Bertha Thomas at Raetihi, she was 25 years of age. Bertie died at Waikato Public Hospital, Hamilton on the 8th June 1976 and was Cremated at Hamilton Park. An ex seaman came ashore and became a farmer. Like many of his time he suffered the 1st World War and was badly gassed in France, and for most of his life suffered chronic emphysema (a debilitating condition that sapped his strength and at most times demanded his energy levels. They married at Raetahi and moved several times in the youthful years of this young man. He died of Pneumonia ... "
