C Ford recounts: "This is my Pop , he had an Irish mother and his father was 2ND generation Irish . He grew up in Kerrytown and his Dad cared for horses. He went to war and was gassed and also shot in the leg. He walked with a limp all his life and also had a terrible cough from the gas. He had a brief holiday in Scotland and returned to NZ and won a ballot and farmed at Claremont . He married Kit Lynch and had two daughters and 3 sons . He retired into Timaru and gardened - he had an amazing vegie garden and always gave fruit and vegies to family and friends and neighbors . He was a quiet and dignified man and a wonderful granddad . He died in his 90's"
