Biographical Notes
Rifleman York was one of the first six member of the Rifle Brigade to be killed in Egypt (Austin, 1924). “Mrs T F York, of Ngawere, Waimate, received a telegram from the Hon. James Allen yesterday to the effect that her husband, Private T. F. York, of Lord Liverpool's Rifle Brigade was killed at Mahtruh on December 25th. The deceased was educated at Warwick House and Christ's College, Christchurch and after leaving school became a farmer at Waimate. He was a brother of Mrs. W. W. Baxter, Wai-iti Road.” - Roll of Honour, Timaru Herald 7 Jan 1916. A member of the Waimate A&P Association, Thomas Flint York married Maggie Watson Brown abt 1905, their daughter Janet Hester was born abt 1907 and died in 1928.
