Biographical Notes
Son of William & Martha Frances (nee FOX) WEIR. Brother Francis was killed in action in 1918 at the Somme. Brother James Benjamin WEIR also served in WWI. Thomas & James enlisted & embarked together. Educated at Waimataitat School. Extracts from letters home of Bill & James reprinted in Timaru Herald, 12 January 1917 - '[Rats] are almost as big as dogs' 'I wish I could get home to spend Christmas with you'. [See Bio.] Bill & Jim were together in the trenches. Returning home on the Hororata, due in Wellington on the 13 March 1919. Thomas returned home on Draft No. 221 on the Horarata which was due in Wellington on the 13 March 1919. RE-DO 9/9/14
