Biographical Notes

Archibald Ramsay was the son of Letitia Ramsay (nee Cairns) of Timaru, New Zealand, and the late Robert Ramsay. Archibald's mother came to Timaru with her parents, William John and Elizabeth Cairns, and a two and a half year old brother on the Strathallan in 1859.

Archibald gave his date of birth as 25 May 1896 and age as 20 years and 7 months when he enlisted, but was in fact only 19 as his date of birth was actually 23 April 1896.
