Biographical Notes

Son of Patrick & Margaret McCARTHY, of Bluecliffs, Esk Valley, St Andrews, Upper Otaio. Brothers Mark David & Robert Joseph Wilson McCARTHY also served in WWI. On active service with the NZEF at time of father's death on 21 March 1918 (Private R. L. McCarthy). Ex-pupil of Esk Valley School.
