Son of George and Agnes Margaret Harper of Christchurch. Husband of BeatriceAnn Sibella Randall, married Westminster RC Cathedra, London 27 July 1913, children Frederick George Strachey Harper born 25.3.1914 , Anne De Carteret Harper 12.11.1916 both born Christchurch, NZ. Educated Chch Boys High School and St Patricks College.Member of the All Blacks rugby team which toured Britain in 1905. All Black 1904-1906. Played cricket in the United Club's first eleven and later for the West Chch Club. Other brothers who also served Phillip Hamilton Harper, Cuthbert Strachey Harper, Robert Paul Harper, Edmund Harper died 1917) George Herbert Harper and Gordon Gerald Harper (died Egypt 1916 7/516).
