Biographical Notes
Henry Gordon Lowry was born on 5 May 1897 at Dunedin, the only son among five daughters of Francis Price (Frank) and Maggie (née Paine) Lowry. He enlisted on 26 May 1917, a carpenter living at home in Timaru. His next-of-kin was his mother – Mrs Maggie Lowry, Catherine Street, Timaru. Private J. C. Ford embarked with the 38th Reinforcements for Liverpool, England, on 5 June 1918 by the “Remuera”. J. H. Lowry , of Timaru, was one of more than 800 men who returned to New Zealand by the “Port Hacking” in August 1919. His mother died in June 1925 at Timaru. In 1928 he married Jeannie Alexander McNie. Henry Lowry died on 16 June 1967 at Christchurch.
