Biographical Notes
Francis August Price, known as Frank, was born on 28 July 1897 at Waimate, the youngest son of Alexander and Emily Jane (née Mason) Price. His father, a carter at Waimate, for many years, died tragically on Christmas night 1901 in a fire at his own house. He had been living by himself for some time. Frank was a motor driver for the C.F.C.A. at Timaru when he enlisted. Private F. A. Price embarked at Wellington with the Otago Infantry Regiment of the 33rd Reinforcements on 31 December 1917, destined for Glasgow, Scotland. He returned to New Zealand aboard the “Chupra”, one of 732 soldiers due at Lyttelton about July 22nd, 1919. Francis married Ethel Cuthbertson in 1921 in New Zealand. He died on 18 March 1965. He was cremated at Karori Crematorium, Wellington, where his name is inscribed in the Memorial Book. His brother, Alfred Percival Price, also served in World War One.
