Biographical Notes

James Paton Lane was born on 11 June 1886 at Dunedin, the son of John and Magdalene Primrose (née Buchan) Lane. His mother died in 1904. James entered Timaru Main School from Kaikorai, Dunedin, at the beginning of 1893, and left in 1898 for work. He married Margaret Helen Carmichael in 1919. At the time of his death, James Paton Lane was the retired Commissioner of Crown Lands.
