Biographical Notes

Harold William Black was born on 6 April 1893 at Pareora, the son of James Roger and Annie Fergusson (née Coulter) Black. He was educated at Pareora West School, leaving there for Adair in January 1907. H. W. Black passed the medical examination at Timaru in September 1915 and was sworn in for service at the Front. Harold married Lavinia Ethel Mary Pratt in 1928.
