Biographical Notes
Donald McLeod was the second son of Murdo (Murdoch) and Abigail (Euphemia? née Gillanders) McLeod, both of whom hailed from Ross-shire, Scotland. Donald was born at Christchurch on 1 May 1889, his brother’s first birthday. His father managed Double Hill Station at Methven for many years before purchasing a farm at Gapes Valley, near Geraldine. It was at Gapes Valley that Donald received his early education, transferring to Geraldine in September 1897, when his father sold up at Gapes Valley.
