Biographical Notes

John Henry Northam was born on 11 January 1896 at Temuka, the son of James and Annie (née Northam) Northam. He was educated at Central New Brighton and Addington schools, the family having moved to Christchurch from the Temuka district in 1898. He embarked for Suez on 6 May 1916. Private John Henry Northam returned to New Zealand per the hospital ship “Marama”, which was due about the end of January 1919. John married Ellen Louisa Clothier in 1921.
