Biographical Notes

Joseph Kelso was was born on 18 August 1889 at Drumlane, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland., the son of Smith and Mary Jane (née Service) Kelso. His mother died in 1893. Joseph was at home at Drumlane in 1910 and again in 1911. Joseph had been in New Zealand for three years and was a farm labourer at Willowbridge when he enlisted in July 1917 after being called up. The year before, he was listed on the Reserves Roll. In 1929 at Waimate Joseph married Fanny McKenzie who died three months before him.
