Biographical Notes

William Thornhill Evans was born on 19 September 1895 at Timaru, the son of William and Elizabeth Bain (née Morton) Evans. His father, William Evans, a flourmiller of Timaru, was his nominated next-of-kin.

W. T. Evans, 2/2610, of Timaru, returned to New Zealand per the “Kia Ora”, embarking at Liverpool in March 1919, the draft being due at Lyttelton on 7 May 1919. He died on 5 January 1970, aged 74 years. He was cremated on 8 January at Purewa and his ashes buried in the Ash Vault at Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland.
