Biographical Notes

Albert Edwin Claridge was born on 25 July 1884 at Temuka, the third son of Charles and Amelia (née Hanks) Claridge, who emigrated to New Zealand immediately after their marriage in England. Albert was educated at Temuka School. Casualty List No. 702, issued in late October 1917, named several South Canterbury men who had been wounded, among them Albert Claridge, of Temuka. He had been wounded in the back and admitted to hospital on 13 October. This was the second time Albert was wounded Albert married Myrtle Crocker in 1924. He died on 18 June 1940 at Christchurch, aged 55 years, and was buried in Bromley cemetery. His brother, Frederick Gordon Stanley Claridge, also served in World War I.
